Turning Over… A New LEAF
First off, I’m okay.
Last Friday, the craziest thing happened: I was the victim of a hit-and-run rollover crash. I was driving our Honda Pilot on a street close to our home, when another car either ran a red light or illegally passed me in the intersection, slammed into my car at just the right angle near the front driver’s-side tire, and immediately flipped my car off the street and onto its roof. I crawled out with all my limbs intact and nothing to show for the crash other than a scraped face from the airbag and a small cut on my ankle from some broken glass. I’m so thankful to God for the obvious miraculous circumstances: I wasn’t injured, none of my kids were in the car, I wasn’t in our main family vehicle at the time (it was in the shop for an oil change), and we were already set to get rid of the Pilot.
Three weeks prior, we had ordered a new car from Carvana: an all-electric 2019 Nissan LEAF! We were supposed to already have it in hand but its delivery got delayed twice, much to our frustration. Who would have known that while we impatiently waited, my old car would be totaled in spectacular fashion and our new vehicle would be delivered to our front door the very next day?!
Sometimes the biggest changes in life are gradual and almost imperceptible. Other times, life changes slam into you and turn your world upside-down. This accident seems like a metaphor for the season of life my family and I are in right now. We’re experiencing multiple, concurrent adjustments to our jobs, schools, structures, and routines. It’s all likely for the better, but it’s happening all at once, and at times we’re struggling to catch our breath and make sense of it all.
What I do know is that God is in control. He’s not surprised by the craziness of circumstances or the pace of the changes. When the flurry of activity dies down and the dust settles, the new reality will sink in and we’ll continue the journey. We’ll trust. We’ll do the next right thing. And, sometimes, God will choose to delight us in the details of His miraculous provision.
A quick update on our progress to launch Opo Coffee:
We’re finishing the back-and-forth of the lease for our brick-and-mortar location, and we hope to have it signed within the next couple of weeks.
Our team is coordinating with other local roasteries to secure a place to roast and package beans that we would source, allowing for an Opo product launch months before our main roastery/retail location is ready.
We are planning to go public with Opo sometime before the end of November, launching with limited, local coffee bean subscriptions fulfilled via e-bike deliveries.
